Q: How do I get the Clavichord Sound to play back in Sibelius 7.5? I switch from the Piano to Clavichord Instrument in the middle of my score, but the sound stays on Piano.
(The amplified version of the Clavichord is called the Clavinet or Electric Clavichord).
A: It would appear that Avid / Sibelius has never assigned the Clavichord instrument to playback, at least since Sibelius 6. The good news is that it’s easy to assign an appropriate sound to this instrument:
Select your Clavichord staff, or, if this instrument is a double for the keyboardist, select the staff at a point after you have inserted an instrument change:

Note in the above example that I’ve inserted the instrument change into both the treble and bass clef staves of the braced grand staff, and hidden the change in the left hand.
With the staff selected, locate Edit Instruments (in Sibelius 7.x, this is in the Instruments group of the Home Tab. In Sibelius 6, it is in House Style > Edit Instruments.) When the dialog opens up, you should see the Clavichord Instrument highlighted. If not, you can select it from the list:

Click Edit Instrument… When the dialog opens, you can assign the clavichord sound, which is currently unallocated:

Choose Keyboards>Harpsichord>Electric Clavichord from the popup list, and you’ll now hear that familiar distinctive bright staccato sound.
